Full Moonrise

Join mother and daughter duo Lapita and Tyana Arviso for a hands-on creative experience highlighting photographic techniques that encapsulate the beauty of the desert landscape. Together we will welcome the full moon and learn to honor her beauty through photography.

Workshop participants will spend two evenings in the fields at Moon Horse Ranch learning to photograph the moon at sunset, moonrise, and in darkness. All backgrounds, cameras, and equipment are welcome; please reach out to Lapita and Tyana if you have any questions on specific camera and equipment needs. This workshop is limited to twelve. Because no one can control the movements of the sky, we ask that workshop participants come in a spirit of humility, willing to be present and learn whatever the weather. In case of clouds covering the moon we will shift our focus to photographing the flora and fauna of the landscape and the sky above us. Our hope in offering a two day workshop is that at least one, and hopefully two evenings will be spent photographing the moon in all her glory.

ABOUT TYANA ARVISO

Based in the high desert of Colorado, Diné artist Tyana Arviso uses photography to interpret her visual perspective. Self-taught with seven years of experience as a professional photographer, Tyana has collaborated with various publications and brands that include the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum and YouTube. Alongside various artist features, including Teva, Stetson, Milk, and more. Tyana Arviso highlights the beauty of the southwest, from vast vistas to desert flora. She loves telling a story with her camera and relishes the unforgettable moments she experiences while out shooting.

ABOUT LAPITA ARVISO

Photographer Lapita Arviso uses her expression to share the surrounding beauty of the southwest. Based in the Four Corners Region, Lapita focuses on landscape and commercial photography. With over a decade of experience Lapita has worked with various publications locally and abroad. Also featured at Brown University as part of the “Scared is Sacred” exhibit. Lapita Arviso will continue observing and refining her skills as an artist. She hopes to connect with likeminded artists along the way.

TRAVEL AND LODGING

Workshop participants are responsible for their own travel to and lodging in Santa Fe. For those traveling from out of town, the nearest airports are in Santa Fe, 20 minutes away, and Albuquerque, which is an hour drive away. Lodging wise, we recommend the El Rey Court, who has offered all registered workshop participants 15% off up to a four night stay. The exact location of the workshop will be sent to registered participants the week of arrival. Moon Horse Ranch is 30 minutes south of downtown Santa Fe, between the villages of Galisteo and Cerillos.

REFUND POLICY

Due to the nature of these workshops and how much long term planning and preparation goes into each one, refunds cannot be given. Exchanging a workshop ticket for a future workshop at Moon Horse Ranch may be possible and will be considered on a case by case basis.

THE AGE OF CORONA

During the workshop we will be observing the current New Mexico Covid guidelines. At present masks are optional. The workshop will be entirely outside in the open air under the western sky.
